THE WEST COAST OFFENSIVE GUIDE

Guide Cover

INTRODUCTION:

By now everyone has heard about the West Coast offense, and normally everyone uses it for Bunch (as they should), but we want to add our spin on it as we bring a focus on using the new custom audibles to our advantage. While Bunch is included, and other formations we begin our dive into West Coast by looking at the 2 Tight End sets. The goal of this guide is control the clock and use your offense to put constant pressure on the opposition as you will be getting points on every single drive.

Below you will find each formation with its own section laid out within tabs. When possible we will also go over an advanced strategy that may require more adjustments, a complete understanding of the formation, or quicker fingers to complete the play. Make sure to learn the entire body of content to ensure that your offense is running on all cylinders.

So lets jump into it, and start learning The West Coast Offense. Thanks for checking out the guide and be sure to tweet us @maddenturf or review us on http://facebook.com/maddenturf after you have gone through the guide to let us know your thoughts!

2 Wide Receiver Sets

West Coast

The goal here starting out the guide is to master controlling the game. This means using the clock and 1st downs to our advantage. We all know the running game is very OP this year, so we bring you a scheme that allows maximum flexibility to run and pass. 91 zone? Won’t save your opponent here as we FORCE them to defend the run and allow us to dictate their defense. Once this is done we can pick and choose if we decide to carve them up with the run or the pass. This scheme does appear very simple at a glance, but does and will take time to master the reads, slides, and playmakering needed to take this section to its highest potential.

Is it battle tested? Yup. The reason we took longer to get this out is because we wanted to make sure that using ONLY this 2 wide receiver scheme you could have success. This was tested in weekend league, mut draft, and salary cap and has produced the results we expected. Please sit back, dive in, and hop into practice mode with us!

In this group of tabs we will go over the basic fundamentals of the offense. To ensure you understand how to run this offense we first recommend taking this into practice mode and working on your timing. This is done best with two controllers to properly emulate the setups people use on defense. You can also edit a custom roster to 99 zone to truly see how this works vs elite defenders.

Every formation needs a good set of audibles….

  • HB Dive
  • Stretch
  • X Post
  • PA Deep In / Z Spot

Here we want to do an introduction and give you a high level overview to the formation before we get into any setups. Please do watch this before moving on to plays.

This is our base passing play in the formation. Essentially our goal here is have a simple route combo that allows to attack all parts of the field. In case of emergency we always have the playmaker ability as well which is typically the dagger to the defense.

This is our second version of X Post and it is used to combat the hard flat vs cloud flat adjustments that your opponents will make. In case of emergency we always have the playmaker ability as well which is typically the dagger to the defense.

Setup:

  • Slant the blocking TE

Our most aggressive setup yet used to nearly guarantee the CPU cannot guard our post route. In case of emergency we always have the playmaker ability as well which is typically the dagger to the defense.

  • Fade the other TE

This setup uses many of the same routes as X Post, but in different spots. It helps creates confusion for a user defender who is trying to anticipate the route combinations. In case of emergency we always have the playmaker ability as well which is typically the dagger to the defense.

Setup:

  • Streak the blocking TE
  • Drag the right of screen WR

3 Wide Receiver Sets

West Coast Offense

Now that we have shown the ability to control the game using only 2 wide receivers we now force them to start defending our heavier passing attack. Here we go in detail with Bunch, but also other formations that you can audible to as well. The power we have here is the best bunch in the game forcing a passing defense and then the ability to audible to formations not normally defended against.

In this group of tabs we will go over setups for the Gun Bunch weak formation. Widely regarded as the best bunch in the game, West Coast allows us to truly attack the 91 zone corners at will using different setups.
