Every Pass Play Needs The Sharp Post
Dubby's own framing, said twice in the breakdowns: this is the read the whole scheme exists to create. Learn it before any setup.
  • Doubles Clamp is good because it carries a sharp post to the outside receiver, to the tight end, and to a receiver on the other side, so posts come both ways.
  • In Texas Y Stutter Wheel the entire play is predicated on the outside receiver's post. It sits under deep blue zones and gives you a real chance against man.
  • His words: nothing beats man 100 percent, but this route gives you a great chance.
  • Because the post is the point, the tight end goes to the short side and the slot gets streaked, which clears the middle for it.
  • When you build in any other formation, Bunch TE Weak, the spreads, Trey Y Flex, look for the same sharp post first.

Everything starts in Gun Doubles Clamp. Texas Y Stutter Wheel is the anchor, and Dubby calls roughly 75 percent of his route combos out of it. The rest of the section is the formations he leaves Clamp for and the coverages that force him out.

  1. 1Align with the tight end to the SHORT side of the field. Dubby's reason: the tight end corner route is easier to throw underneath deep blue zones from there.
  2. 2Streak Y, meaning the slot receiver. He wants his best and biggest receiver in that slot, currently DK Metcalf in MUT, because that is the free form streak target.
  3. 3The whole play is predicated on the outside receiver's post route. That is the read.
  4. 4The short drag is a real secondary option. He rates the speed out as not worth using.

FAQ

Does this work in ranked and tournaments?
Yes. Doubles Clamp is the meta formation and it sits in a lot of playbooks, so the scheme travels even if you do not run the Saints.
Do I have to use the Saints playbook?
No. Dubby says it himself in the intro: the reason he picked the Saints is Doubles Clamp, and that formation is in a lot of books. The Saints just also give you Bunch TE Weak, Trips TE Flex, good pistol runs and Heavy Saint for the goal line.
What personnel do I need?
Tall and fast receivers over route running grades. He wants the Mike Evans and DK Metcalf body type, with his best and biggest receiver in the slot, because that is the free form streak target.
What happens when EA patches the game?
